Private Yankee Doodle
JP Martin's memoir of his tour of duty with the Continental Army from
1776 through 1783, from the Battle of Brooklyn through Yorktown.
Originally published in 1830 in Hallowell, Maine, as _A Narrative of
Some of the Adventures, Dangers, and Sufferings of a Revolutionary
Soldier, Interspersed with Anecdotes of Incidents That Occurred Within
His Own Observation_, Martin's memoir is a fascinating, often amusing,
and highly readable first-person account of the experiences of an
ordinary foot-soldier in the fight for American Independence. Martin
speaks with a surprisingly modern voice, engaging the reader with his
conversational style, while providing an extremely accurate portrayal
of the historic events he personally witnessed. (NOTE: Footnotes at
the end of each chapter.)
